Day of Shining Star to Be Commemorated in American Region
Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- An American regional joint meeting was held in Lima, Peru on Jan. 26 to commemorate the birth anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il.

Present there were personages of the American Regional Preparatory Committee for Commemorating the Centenary of Birth of President Kim Il Sung, the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Committee to Support the Reunification of Korea and political parties and organizations of Peru and popular masses.

Genaro Ledesma Izquieta, chairman of the People's Front of Workers, Peasants and Students of Peru who is co-chairman of the preparatory committee, and others spoke at the meeting.

They expressed deep condolences over the demise of Kim Jong Il, saying that he performed enormous feats for the building of a thriving socialist country and national reunification and global independence and passed away while continuing his journey of field guidance in field jacket to their deep regret.

He will always live in the hearts of mankind, they stressed.

An appeal, adopted at the meeting, said that national and regional preparatory committees for commemorating the centenary of birth of Kim Il Sung would sponsor to form the preparatory committees for commemorating the 70th birth anniversary of Kim Jong Il and set the commemorative period and organize various political and cultural events with unprecedented splendor.

It also called for creating and disseminating books and literary and art works in praise of the great persons of Mt. Paektu and widely introducing their greatness through newspapers, radios and Internet homepages.

It stressed that they would intensify colorful activities to glorify the Day of the Sun in 2012 as the grand political festival common to mankind as noted in the decision, adopted at the consultative meeting of leading officials of the International Preparatory Committee for Commemorating the Centenary of Birth of President Kim Il Sung.
