The Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly on Friday released a decree on instituting the order.

This institution is to give state commendation to officials, service personnel, working people, military units, organs, enterprises and social and cooperative organizations who have made distinguished service in the drive to accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche, the cause of building a thriving socialist nation.

Order of Kim Jong Il, as well as Order of Kim Il Sung, is the highest order in the country.

The order is 67mm in length and 65mm in width. Engraved on it is a portrait of smiling leader Kim Jong Il at the center of golden ear of rice above a shining golden five-point star.

On its upper part is the emblem of the Workers' Party of Korea and on its lower part the national flag of the DPRK. On its back there are letters reading "Order of Kim Jong Il" and serial number and a pin.

Its miniature medal has a five-point star at the center of golden plate 33mm in width and 10mm in length and a pin in the backside.
