Yamaguchi Gov. against U.S. Proposal to Move 1 500 Okinawa Marines

| Pyongyang, February 11 (KCNA) -- Sources close to Japan-U.S. relations said Monday that Washington has sounded out Tokyo on a plan to transfer the 1 500 Marines to Iwakuni, representing nearly half of the 3 300 Okinawa Marines. Yamaguchi Gov. Sekinari Nii urged the central government on Tuesday to reject a reported U.S. proposal to move about 1 500 Marines from Okinawa Prefecture to the Iwakuni base in Yamaguchi. "This came out of the blue and I feel distrust against the (central) government. I want it to reject the proposal," Nii told reporters. |
