The leader was not only the father of the Korean nation but also the lodestar for its reunification as he ushered in the era of "By our nation itself", the era of independence in the nation's history of division and confrontation that lasted more than half a century. "By our nation itself" is the core spirit of the June 15 joint declaration.

He paid much effort to building a thriving reunified nation, the lifelong cause of President Kim Il Sung and long-cherished desire of the Korean nation.

Based on the transparent idea of national independence, he provided the great guidelines for the country's reunification.

He made public the historic work "Let Us Carry Out the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung's Instructions for National Reunification" in August Juche 86 (1997). In the work he formulated the Three Charters for National Reunification, reflection of the President's Juche-based idea and line of national reunification, and declared it.

The leader systematized in an integral way the Three Principles of National Reunification, the 10-point Programme of the Great Unity of the Whole Nation for the Reunification of the Country and the Proposal for Founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo advanced by the President as the Three Charters for National Reunification. This is the great ideological and theoretical feat he performed for national reunification.

He set forth the Five-point Policy for the Great National Unity based on the President's idea of the great unity of the nation. This great programme helps settle the reunification issue by the efforts of the Korean nation, driving force of the reunification.

He also laid down objectives for implementing the three charters and five-point policy and a new reunification slogan concerning their implementation to step up the reunification movement.

His wise leadership culminated in the two north-south Pyongyang summits and the adoption of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and the October 4 Declaration. These declarations ushered in a new era of the independent reunification of the Korean nation.

The historic June 15 era of reunification owes its success to the leader's patriotic activities and Songun (military-first) politics.

No forces on the earth can weaken the efforts of all the Koreans for reunification.
