Minju Joson S. Korean Authorities' Suppression of Progressive Forces Assailed

Pyongyang, February 21 (KCNA) -- The south Korean authorities are cracking down upon the progressive pro-reunification movement bodies and figures on charges of the ill-famed "Security Law". This is nothing but a reckless fascist action against reunification. Minju Joson Tuesday says this in a bylined commentary. It goes on: Ri Chang Gi, publisher of Jaju Minbo, is a progressive media man recognized by all Koreans. He wrote articles calling for the pullout of the U.S. forces from south Korea and the repeal of the SL, objectively dealing with the reality of the DPRK which has won one victory after another in the confrontation with the U.S. and the might of the Songun politics. This being a hard reality, the group arrested him by invoking the SL which should have been abolished. This only brought to light its true colors as anti-reunification elements. The same can be said of the suppression of the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification. Recently the organization has struggled to check the building of Jeju naval base, disclosing the dangerous nature of its construction in solidarity with progressive political parties and civic and social organizations. There is no ground whatsoever for the group to crack down upon the members of the South Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration, "the Council for Promoting the Reunification of Our nation by Federal Formula" and the Society of Victims of "SL". The aims sought by the group in intensifying the crackdown upon the above-said organizations, disclosing their true colors as anti-reunification and confrontation maniacs, are to tide over the worsening ruling crisis and help the "Saenuri Party" stay in power through the forthcoming parliamentary election and "presidential" election and thus ensure its security after leaving its office. |
