The newspaper Granma carried an article titled "DPRK achieving peace and development" with a photo of the newly-erected statues of President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il on horsebacks.

The paper stressed that the DPRK would further increase the might of the country and is victoriously hitting the gigantic and noble targets under the guidance of the dear respected Kim Jong Un, supreme leader.

Another paper Juventud Rebelde carried an article titled "70th birth anniversary of Comrade Kim Jong Il" with his photo.

The paper said that as the general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission and supreme commander of the Korean People's Army, Kim Jong Il firmly defended the dignity of the nation and sovereignty of the country.

Prensa Latina posted on its Internet homepage a portrait of Kim Jong Il and commemorations of the Day of the Shining Star in the DPRK.
