S. Korean Authorities Accused of Insisting on Naval Base Construction

Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- The Measure Council for Checking Construction of Jeju Naval Base in south Korea hit out at the Lee Myung Bak group for insisting on building a naval base on Jeju Island.

In a statement the council denounced Lee, saying he pressed for the construction in a press conference.

Earlier, the "prime minister" vowed to ensure the "government's" fulfillment of its responsibility concerning the construction of the base, the statement said.

The south Korean authorities' insistence on the construction will stoke tensions in Northeast Asia and pollute environment, it noted.

It urged the regime to immediately stop the project as it has become clear that it is left with no justifications to push forward the construction.
