Top Banks Protest U.S. Resolution against Sri Lanka
Pyongyang, March 5 (KCNA) -- Top commercial banks in Sri Lanka have joined protests against a U.S.-backed resolution to investigate alleged war crimes in a unique move, an industry body said in a statement Thursday.

Leading commercial and specialized banks via the industry body Sri Lanka Banks' Association has joined the majority Sri Lankans who are opposing moves by UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to pass a resolution against the country.

In a statement, the bank association said its members were highly disturbed by the attempts made by some countries to pass a resolution against Sri Lanka and interfere with the progress that has been and is being made by the government of Sri Lanka in achieving ethnic harmony and reconciliation among all communities.

"We believe that such interference would bring in new tensions and disrupt the process which has already begun," the association said, adding that reconciliation should be achieved by home grown policies.

Sri Lanka is campaigning heavily to defeat a move by the U.S. to initiate an international investigation into alleged war crimes, which is to be presented to the UNHRC on Thursday.
