Since he graduated from Kim Il Sung University Kim Jong Gil, 71, has worked at the medical institutes for 40 odd years. He was active at the Pharmacy Research Institute under the Academy of Medical Science before working at the Academy of Koryo Medicine.

He solved many scientific and technological problems arising in the Koryo pharmacy and authored numbers of reference books on this field, thus greatly contributing to the development of pharmacy and training of reserves.

In the period he deciphered and proved in a scientific way the ingredients of Koryo Insam (ginseng) and its pharmacological action for the first time in the country and succeeded in production of 10 odd kinds of medicines made of Koryo Insam.

He developed a new method of analyzing sugar and improved 60 kinds of Koryo medicines (Korean traditional medicine) usefully and made a research into gingko leaf extract for medicines. Among those 10 kinds of medicines he developed with gingko leaf extract are heart injection and pills for curing arteriosclerosis.

Dr. Kim won February 16 Science and Technology Prize for his distinguished contribution to the nation's development of pharmacy.
