Japan Should Opt to Redress Its Past: Minju Joson
Pyongyang, March 6 (KCNA) -- There took place in Australia on Feb. 19 a memorial for hundreds of people who fell victims to the air raids by the imperial Japanese Army in February 1942 during the Second World War.

The Australian prime minister in the event said that "1942 was the darkest year in the history of the country", expressing his bitter grief.

Minju Joson in a bylined commentary Tuesday says his words are indicative of the severe wounds, caused by Japan's past crimes, still remaining unhealed in the minds of the people even though more than half a century has passed since the end of the war.

Citing facts to prove that Japan committed hideous crimes against humanity unprecedented in the history during the Second World War, the commentary goes on:

In Korea alone, the Japanese imperialists killed more than one million innocent Koreans in cold blood.

This being a hard fact, the Japanese reactionaries have justified Japan's colonial policy toward Korea. They insist that Japan "protected Korea from the aggression by the European powers", it "contributed to the development and promotion of the industry of Korea", and the "issue of comfort women for the imperial Japanese army was a deed done by individual prostitution businessmen".

This proves that the Japanese reactionaries are as brutal as their ancestors who had been obsessed by manslaughter.

Lots of the souls who suffered at the hands of the Japanese imperialists are still cursing Japan.

Japan is seeking to evade its responsibility while persistently denying the crime-woven history stained with the blood of the Asian people. Its impudent attitude is bound to bring its destruction.

If Japan is afraid of final doom, it should opt to redress its past wrongdoings at an early date.
