S. Korean Police Accused of Violence against Naval Base Construction Protesters

| Pyongyang, March 16 (KCNA) -- Civic and public organizations including the All-Islanders Measure Committee for Checking Jeju Military Base Construction and the Joint Conference of Human Rights Organizations on March 10 held a press conference in Sogwipho, Jeju Island, condemning unreasonable suppression by police. They censured the police for walking away over 50 protesters, when counted only from March 7, including members of the organizations and foreign peace activists, pressing for the base construction. In particular, they exposed outrages by cops who kicked and strangled protesters. The arrest and violence are evident human rights abuses, they charged. |
