Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Korean Committee for Space Technology in a statement Friday declared that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea would launch Kwangmyongsong-3, an earth observation satellite, to mark the 100th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung. The statement instills into the minds of the people in the DPRK a pride in living in a satellite manufacturing and launching state. Hong Son Ok, vice-chairwoman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, told KCNA: "The statement represents the DPRK's will to deepen international trust and cooperation in research into space technology and satellite launch. The earth observation satellite will be launched with success, in reflection of the DPRK desire for peaceful use of the space. Now I am recalling the tireless efforts leader Kim Jong Il had devoted to developing local space science and technology." A department director of the Committee, Ryu Kyong Il, said: "The news of upcoming launch of a working satellite has greatly delighted us. On March 15, a photo exhibition co-sponsored by KCNA and AP of the United States was opened in New York to mark Kim Il Sung's 100th birth anniversary. The Unhasu Orchestra, famous at home and abroad, had a joint concert with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra of France in Paris. DPRK girls finished first in the Under-19 International Women Soccer (Spring of Kuban) held in Russia. All these facts illustrate that the DPRK has been under the world's spotlight." |
