The assembly on Mar. 16 unanimously adopted a letter of intent opposing the relocation of some 1 500 U.S. marines in Okinawa to Iwaguni base, saying it would mean additional burdens on the locals.

It voiced strong opposition to temporary deployment in Iwaguni base of VTOL plane which drew criticism for crash accident in the development phase and for its noise.
