Sports Games, Events Scheduled for Day of Sun

Pyongyang, March 26 (KCNA) -- To ceremoniously commemorate the 100th birth anniversary (April 15) of President Kim Il Sung is an unanimous desire of the Korean people and the world's progressives, Yun Song Bom, director of the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports, told KCNA.

He said:

Various sports games and events are to be held on the occasion of the Day of the Sun.

The IAAF-25th Mangyongdae Prize Marathon is scheduled for April 8 in Pyongyang, which will draw marathoners from 10 odd countries.

Men and women marathoners, who top the record recommended by the IAAF, will be qualified for the 30th Olympic Games.

A national sports festival is planned on a large scale. The contestants will be vying for more than 300 gold medals in 30 odd events.

Besides, a national Taekwon-Do Festival will take place at Taekwon-Do Hall, demonstration performances of figure skating at Ice Rink and synchronized swimming at Changgwang Health Complex.

Preparations for the games and events are now under vigorous way.
