Japanese Authorities Accused of Cutting Subsidies for Korean Schools

Pyongyang, April 4 (KCNA) -- Osaka Prefecture of Japan recently decided not to give 2011 subsidies to the Korean schools in the prefecture. A bylined commentary of Rodong Sinmun on Wednesday terms the Japanese authorities' politically-motivated handling of the sacred education issue a hysteric act of ultra-right conservative elements engrossed in hostility toward the DPRK. The Japanese authorities criticized the work of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), finding fault with Korean school students who visited the homeland to attend events, says the commentary, adding it is far-fetched accusation to find an excuse for cutting subsidies for Korean schools in Japan. The Japanese reactionaries' acts are aimed to discriminate national education of Korean residents in Japan and burden them with heavy tuition fee and thus obliterate the national education of Chongryon, the commentary says, and goes on: The facts prove what a dangerous stage the Japanese reactionaries' long-running crackdown on Chongryon has reached. Mayor of Osaka City Hashimoto, when governing the Osaka Prefecture last year, thwarted tuition aid to Korean schools, saying he can not allow funding any institution that has relation with the "illegal state", regardless of whether it is a school under the pretext of "political principle". He even said that he will separately deal with Korean schools though the government includes them in the tuition-waiver program. To violate the sacred right to education being obsessed with chauvinistic stand to Korean nation is an act against humanity and a breach of international law. It amounts to crime of fanning up hostility toward the DPRK in the Japanese society and making Korean children victims of the unjust political suppression. It is only the Japanese politicians in the world who take politically-motivated approach towards the issue of education. |
