Kim Jong Il began the Songun (military-first) leadership with his inspection of Seoul Ryu Kyong Su 105 Guards Tank Division of the Korean People's Army.

He prepared the KPA to be an army strong in ideology and faith, imbued with the spirit of devotedly defending the leader and the spirit of defending the socialist motherland.

He also turned it into an elite army, each soldier being a match for a hundred foes, equipped with latest weaponry.

He put forward the slogan "Training Is Also a Battle!" in the army.

Always finding himself among servicepersons, he encouraged them to perform feats in defending the country.

He also paid deep attention to developing local ammunitions industry, and furnished the army with powerful offensive and defensive means.

Meanwhile he strengthened the militia forces to build up the all-people and nationwide defence system.

DPRK servicepersons and civilians pay respects to Kim Jong Il for having defended socialism and upgraded the country's prestige through Songun leadership.
