The message said:

I, on behalf of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and members of the party and on my own behalf, extend warm congratulations to you upon your election as first secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea.

Your election to the top post of the WPK is an expression of absolute belief of the party, state and all the service personnel and fraternal Korean people that you would inherit the cause of the leaders and lead the defence and construction of socialist Korea.

I am firmly convinced that the fraternal Korean people will register greater and fresh achievements in building a thriving socialist Korea and accelerating the peaceful reunification of the country in line with the Juche idea and Songun under the wise leadership of the WPK headed by you.
