Pyongyang, April 12 (KCNA) -- There is a branch school on Suun Islet, 70 km away from the mouth of the River Amnok in the west sea of Korea. This school named after Suundo was set up on September 1, Juche 66 (1977) thanks to the government measure taken by President Kim Il Sung, and now serves for one pupil. At the school Jon Hye Yong has been active as a teacher for 35 years. Before volunteering to go to the islet, she had worked at the primary school attached to Sinuiju Teacher Training College. Jon, 56, said: "When I started working as a teacher on the islet, I got bitterly homesick. Sometimes I felt so exhausted after finishing classes for five students of different ages. At that time I used to get encouraged from the pupils, the future of the country, regarding me as their sister and mother." Jon made a lot of teaching aids by herself and sent 20 odd graduates to the army and higher schools. In recognition of her feats, the government recommended Jon for a delegate to the 7th Congress of the League of Socialist Working Youth of Korea and two national conferences of educational workers, and a film featuring her was produced. Jon is still engaging herself in the educational work. |
