Pyongyang, April 15 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il set forth a new revolutionary and scientific line to further develop the economy of the DPRK with the imperialists intensifyhing the moves to isolate and stifle it.

The line is to give priority to the development of the defence industry in conformity with the Songun (military-first) era while developing the light industry and agriculture simultaneously. This original line makes it possible to successfully carry on the building of a thriving socialist nation under any complicated situation.

In August Juche 92 (2003) Kim Jong Il stressed the need to thoroughly implement the line of economic construction in the era of Songun.

He said that the line is a strategic one for socialist economic construction to be invariably maintained in the era of Songun and it provides a material and economic guarantee for the Songun leadership and politics of the Workers' Party of Korea.

The leader wisely led the implementation of this line, thus putting the defence industry on a more self-reliant and modern basis.

Thanks to his energetic guidance the defence industry of the DPRK developed into an ultra-modern industry capable of manufacturing any advanced military equipment.

He also paid much effort to developing the light industry and agriculture.

Touring industrial establishments and co-op farms, he solved knotty problems and encouraged the people to turn out in the innovation drive.

His ceaseless field guidance helped renovate many factories as required by the Songun era and build modernly-equipped production bases to further improve the people's standard of living.

A vigorous drive was conducted to lay solid foundations for agricultural production, including land rezoning, project for nature-driven waterway and construction of stockbreeding bases.

The leader worked hard day and night in 2011, the last year of his great life, too, to provide the people with better living conditions.

Thanks to his tireless efforts a new era of industrial revolution was opened up and the DPRK's economy turned into knowledge-based one.
