Pyongyang, April 19 (KCNA) -- A gathering of agricultural workers was held on Thursday before the equestrian statues of President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il at the Mansudae Art Studio on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Korean People's Army (KPA). Ri Myong Gil, chairman of the Central Committee of the Union of Agricultural Workers, made a report to be followed by speeches. The speakers said the President successfully accomplished the cause of founding regular armed forces after the country's liberation and consistently adhered to the idea and line of attaching importance to the army in the whole period of revolutionary leadership for many years. They spoke highly of his immortal exploits in the building of revolutionary armed forces. Kim Jong Il bolstered the KPA as elite revolutionary armed forces with his Songun leadership and pursued unique Songun politics, ushering in the greatest heyday in army-building, they noted. The 80-year-long history of the KPA is a proud course in which it won one victory after another in the showdown with the U.S. and other imperialists and in the struggle to accomplish the cause of socialism under the leadership of the peerlessly great persons, and a sacred history in which it has creditably carried forward the tradition of loyalty established in the secret camp in Mt. Paektu, they said. They called for dynamically conducting long journeys of Songun revolution true to the leadership of the dear respected Kim Jong Un and making a contribution to the building of a thriving nation through increased grain production. |
