Rodong Sinmun Blames U.S. for Sparking Arms Race
|

Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- The United States held big share in the world military expenditure that totaled 1 740 billion dollars last year, according to the data recently released by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute in Sweden. With its military expenditure standing at 711 billion the U.S. topped the world's list in the military spending. Huge amount of them was spent for the modernization of nuclear weapons and establishment of missile defense system, etc. Commenting on this, Rodong Sinmun Tuesday says in a bylined commentary: It is natural that world media brand the U.S. as a chief culprit disturbing world peace and stability and an arch criminal sparking off arms race. Big clouds of a nuclear war hanging heavily over the world people now are attributable to the U.S. moves for increasing military expenditure. If the U.S. has true intention to ensure world peace and stability, it should reduce its military expenditure running at an astronomical figure and stop actions of fomenting and escalating arms race. The ceaseless aggression and wars and chronic economic and financial crisis are also forcing the U.S. to cut down its military expenditure. Nevertheless, the U.S. eyes giving spurs to expanding military expenditure regardless of the situation. The assistant secretary of the U.S. Defense Department for World Strategy recently said that the U.S. pushes forward U.S.-Japan-south Korea and U.S.-Japan-Australia negotiations for establishing missile defense system in Northeast Asia and Mideast region. This proves that the U.S. is still seized by arms buildup. This is sparking off a new global arms race. Many countries have opted for bolstering their military capacities for self-defense. The U.S. is the chief culprit disturbing world peace and stability and main architect of arms race. With nothing can the U.S. warlike forces justify their criminal policy for arms buildup nor cover up their true colors. |
