Pyongyang, May 3 (KCNA) -- Forty years has passed since President Kim Il Sung laid down the three principles for Korea's reunification. On May 3, Juche 61 (1972), the President met representatives of south Korea who visited Pyongyang to attend the north-south high-level political talks. In his talk with them he set forth the three principles for national reunification -- independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity. The three principles are a programme that clarifies the way for smoothly achieving Korea's reunification in line with the will and desire of the nation. With these principles, a common reunification programme, the Koreans could bring about a new turn in the struggle for national reunification. On the basis of the principles, the President advanced a proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo and the 10-point programme of the great unity of the whole nation. Under his energetic guidance and devoted efforts, the reunification movement made long strides despite the separatist forces' persistent moves for confrontation and war and the country's peace and security of the nation were reliably defended. The President's idea and line of national reunification had been carried forward by leader Kim Jong Il. Kim Jong Il formulated the three principles, the 10-point programme of great national unity and the DFRK founding proposal as the three charters for national reunification. He also provided the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration, great guidelines for the independent reunification of the nation, and the October 4 declaration, its action programme. The great feats the President and the leader performed for national reunification will remain forever. |
