Peace of Korean Peninsula Called for in S. Korea

Pyongyang, May 4 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and the Federation of Trade Unions of south Korea issued a joint appeal under the title of "Let's terminate the north-south military confrontation and push forward the realization of peace on the Korean Peninsula" on Tuesday, May Day.

The south and north have failed to hold a joint ceremony on May Day since Lee Myung Bak took office, the appeal said.

Peace on this land has been seriously jeopardized with military conflicts looming due to the south-north relations that have been plunged to a total deadlock, it deplored.

Had the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration been thoroughly implemented, the on-going crisis wouldn't have occurred, it said.

The south-north confrontation and conflict would get Koreans nowhere, it noted, urging the "government" to opt for the implementation of declarations, though belatedly.

The organizations will struggle in the van of workers for putting an end to confrontation and ensuring peace on the peninsula through unity and solidarity, it stressed.
