It said they marked the 32nd anniversary of the Kwangju Popular Uprising that took place in protest against the military fascist dictatorship of Chun Doo Hwan, a matchless homicide.

The uprising set off strong aspiration for independence against U.S. in south Korea and aroused the people to fight against dictatorship, the statement said, adding:

The just fight has developed into candlelight actions by millions of people today in denunciation of the Lee Myung Bak dictatorship regime that runs counter to the June 15 era of reunification.

The present situation requires united struggle.

The South Headquarters of Pomminryon will make every possible effort to end the Lee Myung Bak's dictatorship rule and glorify the June 15 era of reunification by inheriting the spirit displayed by the martyrs of the May 18 Popular Uprising.
