Pyongyang, May 29 (KCNA) -- With the approach of the celebrations for the 66th anniversary of the Korean Children's Union (KCU), the Korean people are sorely missing President Kim Il Sung, who cared so much for happiness of posterity all his life. Following are some of the stories on his loving care for children. "Debt" Owed to Children It was one midnight in April Juche 50 (1961) when the President called some officials concerned to learn about the construction of the Pyongyang Students and Children's Palace. An official explained him about the relief map modified to suit children's features. Seeing the map, the President told that nothing should be spared for children though more materials and funds were needed to build the palace on an enlarged basis. And he suggested discussing its designing with children. After a while, he said he felt indebted to children, urging the officials to build the palace as early as possible. Celebrations for KCU anniversary One day in January 1966, the President called a youth league official to instruct him to significantly organize the celebrations of the 20th KCU birthday. He said the work with the KCU should never be neglected, saying that it is an important and responsible work for creditably training the reserves of the revolution. Afterwards, he learned in detail about preparations for the celebrations to solve knotty problems. He personally attended a joint national meeting of the KCU organizations, giving precious teachings for the development of KCU work. At the end of the meeting, he called some KCU members and officials to advise that the schoolchildren should take an active part in the organizational life and every Saturday be set as day of KCU organizational life. This teaching reflected his wish that the children would prepare themselves through organizational life to be reliable reserves shouldering the future destiny of the country. Souvenir Picture On June 7, 1994, one month and a day before his demise, the President had a photo session with the delegates to the 5th Congress of the KCU after attending it. In his congratulatory letter to the Congress he expressed belief that the KCU members would grow up to be successors to the Korean revolution, intensely faithful to the Workers' Party of Korea. |
