Tanchon Port on East Coast of DPRK
Pyongyang, June 1 (KCNA) -- Tanchon Port, built on a modern basis on the east coast of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, is one of monumental edifices in the Songun (military-first) era.

Leader Kim Jong Il had paid deep attention to building the port.

The port boasts of two 2,000-odd-meter-long moles, wharves, a control room and an office building. It can handle millions of tons of cargos a year.

The moles are strong enough to protect the port from surging waves and the office building is redolent of vessel and wave. The computerized control room helps reduce anchorage time of ships and raise cargo-handling capacity.

Several large cargo ships can anchor the port at a time.

A cultural house and basketball and football grounds are built in the compound of the port.

The port will be greatly conducive to developing the nation's economy.
