The chairman of the U.S. Western Regional Committee of the Overseas Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration made a speech at the commemorative ceremony held before the event.

The declaration adopted 12 years ago helped cut off the vicious cycle of distrust and confrontation between the north and the south and open a new chapter for reconciliation, cooperation, peace and reunification, he said, charging that Lee Myung Bak of south Korea openly denied the declaration which reflects the nation's desire, thus plunging the inter-Korean relations into a deadlock and sparking off even a military conflict.

He urged the Lee Myung Bak "government" to immediately stop the moves against the June 15 declaration, threatening peace and escalating confrontation with fellow countrymen.

Then followed a lecture for reunification.

The lecturer blamed the stalled implementation of the declaration on the treacherous forces that have taken roots deep in south Korea, kowtowing to outsiders and shunning reconciliation among Koreans.

The U.S. has resorted to its hostile policy toward the DPRK and backed the south Korean conservative forces to fan up the inter-Korean confrontation. This is the main reason that the implementation of the declaration has suffered hardships, he said.

He called upon Koreans in the north and the south to pull the U.S. forces out of south Korea and pool their efforts for the implementation of the joint declaration.
