U.S.-Japan-S. Korea Triangular Military Alliance Censured: Rodong Sinmun

Pyongyang, June 21 (KCNA) -- The U.S., Japan and south Korea are reported to start a joint military exercise in waters off the Korean Peninsula on Thursday. It is said that the military drill will focus on "improving the coordinated capabilities and information exchange" for the "promotion of joint rescue of disaster sufferers and maritime security". The unprecedented joint military exercise is to be kicked off with June 25 when the U.S. imperialists unleashed the Korean War just days away. This is a grave development that can never be overlooked. Rodong Sinmun Thursday says this in a by-lined commentary. The U.S. has long cried out for tightened alliance through the U.S.-Japan "security treaty" and the U.S.-south Korea "mutual defense treaty". It has established the system of triangular military alliance among the U.S., Japan and south Korea by closely linking these two "treaties", the commentary says, and goes on: The U.S. is contemplating realizing its strategy for putting the Asia-Pacific under its control and the strategy toward the DPRK by relying on the triangular alliance. It works hard to use the south Korean puppet forces and Japanese "Self Defense Forces" as shock brigades for realizing the Asia-Pacific strategy and proxy forces for a war against the DPRK. The dangerous moves to knock into shape the triangular military nexus is an act going against the trend of the times for regional peace and stability including the Korean Peninsula. Dark clouds of a new war are thus hanging heavily in Northeast Asia including the peninsula. But such moves of the hostile forces will get them nowhere. The army and people of the DPRK that have consolidated the war deterrent in every way by the might of Songun remain sharply vigilant against the joint military exercise. The U.S. would be well advised to clearly face up to the trend of the times and immediately stop its reckless act of sparking off Cold War in Northeast Asia. |
