The Japanese Diet has revised the basic law on nuclear energy. This paved the way for Japan's use of nuclear energy for its security. It was stipulated in the law that nuclear energy should be used for peaceful purposes only.

The revision of the law was not confined to the nuclear field only. Japan deleted from the law on the research into outer space the provision stipulating that the research should be conducted for peaceful purposes only.

This tells that Japan may use outer space for its military purposes.

The revision of the law passed by the Japanese Diet is quite contrary to the three non-nuclear principles that ban the country from possessing, producing or allowing nuclear weapons on its territory.

Expert Valery Kistanov said Japan is moving towards militarism.

He went on:

The recent decision made by the Japanese Diet shows that Japan is not pinning a great hope on the U.S. protection. Japan has technological conditions enough to produce nuclear weapons. It might have stockpiled fissionable materials sufficient enough to produce nuclear weapons, given its highly developed nuclear industry.
