KCNA Commentary Slams S. Korea's Planned Purchase of U.S.-made Weapons

Pyongyang, July 5 (KCNA) -- The moves of the Lee Myung Bak regime of south Korea to purchase U.S.-made weapons are touching off bitter anger among south Korean people from all walks of life. The Lee group set it as its "top-priority task of the administration" before the end of the tenure of its office this year to clinch with the U.S. the contract on the purchase of U.S.-made weapons worth more than ten billion dollars. It requested the U.S. to sell weapons worth more than 1.409 billion dollars for the present, including multi-purpose helicopters, missiles and ultra-modern guided missiles. The group went the lengths of contemplating introducing even fighters still in the process of development within its term of office by concluding the assessment of them through simulation flight, not through test flight. It has so far bought deadly weapons and hardware worth tens of billions of dollars from the U.S. since it took office. This is six times the number of the weaponry purchased by the former "governments" in the corresponding period. Such move of the Lee group is a reckless act of escalating military confrontation in Northeast Asia including the Korean Peninsula, sparking off arms race and straining the situation. The amount of money the Lee group is spending for the purchase of U.S.-made weapons is enough to provide jobs to 5.2 million unemployed and underemployed people and relieve at least 9.22 million poor people unable to earn even the minimum living cost and distribute houses to more than 9.315 million families, half of all families in south Korea. This is also huge enough to pay school expenses for the south Korean students who are demanding the cut of registration fee by half, to say nothing of all schoolchildren. The Lee group is a clan of wicked traitors and charlatans who rob the people of their money, utterly indifferent to their fate, and offer it to their American master and get profits through this. The projected purchase betrayed once again the true colors of Lee as a traitor keen to prolong his dirty remaining days as a pro-U.S. stooge by selling off the interests of the nation and to meet its own interests. It is quit natural for all south Koreans to condemn the Lee group's projected purchase as an act of treachery doing harm to the nation and deteriorating the people's living. |
