S. Korean Paper Accuses Japan of Its Desperate Moves to Emerge Military Giant

Pyongyang, July 10 (KCNA) -- The south Korean paper Asian Economy on July 7 commented on Japan's stepped-up moves to turn it into a military giant as evidenced by its campaign to bolster its capability for military espionage against its neighboring countries as follows: The Japanese government presented a report claiming the right to collective self-defence, which was echoed by the political camp. It indicates that Japan is rapidly turning to the Right as it means an attempt to modify the attitude which has been hesitated in consideration of uproar from neighboring countries. The Japanese government has sought the expansion of the long-range operations of its military forces, occasioned by the enlargement of the sphere of its "Self-Defense Forces" on the basis of redefined U.S.-Japan alliance. To this end, it decided to introduce mid-air refueling tankers, large transport ships, escort craft, new type transport planes, etc in the new mid-term defense capability readjustment plan for 2001-2005 confirmed in December, 2000. Last year it decided at a ministerial meeting its "defense policy" in the direction of increasing investment in latest type weaponry including submarines, fighters, etc. This is aimed at increasing the maneuverability of the SDF, strengthening naval watch and bolstering its missile defense capability. A report provided by a verification team of the Defense Ministry said in order to gather information about the "missile launch of north Korea" independently Japan would examine the use of information about the launch provided by early warning satellite of the U.S. forces and "the deployment of Aegis in waters near the launching site while cooperating with U.S. Aegis." The report claims this action is aimed at gathering "information about missile launch" but it is interpreted as achieving such a military purpose as expanding the radius of the SDF's actions. It is expected that the deployment of Aegis in the West Sea of Korea would make the escalation of military tension such as the aggravating containment between the U.S., Japan and south Korea and China and Russia in waters of the West Sea unavoidable. The Japan Defense Ministry plans to import two drones from the U.S. and deploy them at the GSDF. It is expected to independently develop drones. It said that once unmanned spy planes are developed and their technical level rises, the ministry is expected to use them for a military purpose. Security and intelligence satellites will be reinforced to monitor military facilities in the north. Japan lifted off spy satellite "Optics 3" in 2009. In December, 2011 it blasted off rocket "H-2A" No. 20 which delivered "Radar 3". If "Radar 4" and "Optics 5," etc, are launched as scheduled, Japan will have a complete system for photographing specified land spots more than once every day. |
