Japan's Acts of Toeing U.S. Policy Slammed

Pyongyang, July 11 (KCNA) -- The Japanese authorities' stand of toeing the U.S. policy has touched off bitter criticism and resentment at home and abroad. The Japan minister of Defense recently toured Yamaguchi and Okinawa prefectures to persuade the residents and request the local authorities to allow the delivery of MV-22 Osprey to these prefectures. As known, the U.S. envisions the temporary deployment of MV-22 Osprey in the Iwaguni base of Yamaguchi Prefecture and then its transfer to the Futenma base of Okinawa Prefecture. The Japanese authorities, who are obedient to the U.S., readily accepted its plan only to be in trouble. The recent crash of MV-22 Osprey in Morocco caused a strong opposition of residents in various prefectures including Okinawa Prefecture to the deployment of the U.S. transport plane. It is not likely that the Japanese, who had been exposed to sufferings like noise and air pollution, would accept the crash-prone airplane. Much upset by this development, the Japanese government let the minister of Defense tour prefectures to make the residents change their minds, complaining that it is difficult to change the decision that had already been made. The minister met with the governors and mayors of the prefectures and requested them to make a concession, saying that "social concerns are fully understandable". He parroted U.S. military which said that it would impose flight ban in the sky above Japan until the security of the transport planes is guaranteed. This drew disillusion of the local authorities as he followed the U.S. sinister intention to bring the transport planes to the land of Japan. The governor of Okinawa Prefecture, when meeting the minister of Defense, strongly rejected the U.S. deployment plan in the prefecture. If the push given by the U.S. for the deployment results in any accident, he will be compelled to demand the U.S. forces immediately withdraw all the military bases from Okinawa, the governor said. The mayor of Ginowan City of Okinawa Prefecture and the mayor of Iwaguni City of Yamaguchi Prefecture stressed that they can not accept the deployment plan, urging the minister of Defense to make U.S. cancel the plan. Meanwhile, the Okinawa Prefectural Assembly and the Iwaguni City Assembly of Yamaguchi Prefecture unanimously adopted a resolution and a written opinion calling for withdrawing the plan. Amid voices calling for opening prefectural meetings to protest the authorities and the U.S. government growing stronger in different parts of Japan, a ship with MV-22 Osprey on board left the U.S. naval base in California for Japan, Kyodo said. Analysts see that if the Japanese authorities keep turning their back on the people, not departing from the bad habit of toeing the U.S. policy, they will face self-isolation. |
