Kim Un Guk and Yang Kyong Il won gold medals in men's weightlifting and wrestling respectively at world championships.

An Kum Ae, Jo Yong Suk and Kwon Un Sil who competed in women's judo, shooting and archery respectively at the 2008 Olympiad will try again at the 30th Olympiad. An Kum Ae won a silver medal at the 2008 Olympiad.

Han Kum Ok, Jong Chun Mi, Kim Kum Sok and Kim Kum Ok have also proved successful at international tournaments.

The DPRK bagged two gold, one silver and three bronze medals at the 29th Olympic Games.

It was at the 25th Olympiad that the DPRK made the highest results with four gold and five bronze medals.
