Pyongyang, July 23 (KCNA) -- A meeting was held at the hall of the members of the House of Representatives in Tokyo on July 18 to demand immediate application of tuition-free program for senior high school to Korean schools. It was co-sponsored by Japanese organizations such as the Liaison Society Opposing Exclusion of Korean Schools from Tuition-free Program for Senior High Schools, Forum Peace, Human Rights and Environment of Japan and the Japan-Korea Society for Scientific and Educational Interchange. Present there were officials of the General Association of the Korean Residents in Japan, Koreans in Japan, dietmen, members of the organizations supporting Korean schools across Japan. Only the Korean schools are still excluded from the tuition waiver program for senior high schools even though the program has been enforced for two years, the speakers said. They urgently demanded an immediate application of the program to all schools. The Japanese government, however, has postponed the judgment of the application of the program, citing political and diplomatic issues as an excuse, they noted. They pledged to consolidate solidarity between Koreans in Japan and the Japanese and wage a dynamic movement to have the program applied to Korean schools in Japan at an early date by raising public concern for the issue. |
