S. Koreans Launch Signature Campaign against Military Agreement with Japan
Pyongyang, July 26 (KCNA) -- A pan-national signature campaign for checking the conclusion of a military agreement with Japan was kicked off in Seoul on July 24.

Organizing the campaign is the committee for checking the south Korea-Japan military agreement, implementing the south-north joint declaration and promoting pan-national rally for peace and reunification to mark the 67th anniversary of the country's liberation.

The committee groups civic and social organizations of south Korea including the Confederation of Trade Unions, the Federation of Peasants Associations, the Federation of the Poor and the Federation of University Students in the 21st Century as well as youth and student organizations.

Earlier, the organization held a press conference.

Speakers said that the Lee Myung Bak "government" is watching for a chance to conclude military agreement with Japan which it had pushed forward in secrecy. It was forced to suspend it in face of public protest.

The group of "Saenuri Party" asserted that the conclusion of the agreement has problems concerning procedure and course only, while siding with the present "government", they noted.

It is common understanding of members of civic and social organizations that the struggle against the military agreement has not ended, they added.

They called upon all the people to turn out in the pan-national signature campaign to curb the conclusion of treacherous agreement in order to eradicate the pro-Japanese elements in their desperate efforts and to achieve independence, peace and reunification of the country.
