Those varieties were personally chosen by President Kim Il Sung in his lifetime for the betterment of local people's living.

It was in July Juche 65 (1976) that an enlarged meeting of the Political Commission of the C.C., Workers' Party of Korea discussed issues concerning light industry.

In the second-day meeting, the President suggested discussing the issue of daily necessities and acquainted himself in detail with varieties of the goods on sale in cities, workers' districts and rural communities.

Then he learnt about how many kinds of sundry goods were produced at central and local factories and instructed the then Public Service Commission to work out a list of daily necessities ordered.

The new list covered 193 varieties of goods. Not satisfied with the list, he called several people with different jobs to hear about their demands for goods. Then he added 13 kinds to the list of goods in consideration of their demands.

After all, the daily necessities increased to 206 in the number of their varieties.
