DPRK Weightlifter Breaks World Record in Olympiad
Pyongyang, July 31 (KCNA) -- Kim Un Guk, a weightlifter of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, set a new world record and won a gold medal in men's 62kg category in London Olympics Monday.

He succeeded in lifting 153 kg in snatch and 174 kg in clean-and-jerk, 327 kg in all.

Kim, belonging to the April 25 Sports Team, is an ace athlete well-known at home and abroad. He cut brilliant figure in the 2011 Asian Weightlifting Championships, 16th Asian Games and 5th East Asian Games and bagged three gold medals in world weightlifting championships in 2010 and 2011.

He proved successful at local games, including the Sports Contest for Mangyongdae Prize and national championships and was selected as one of the ten best players in the country twice.

The DPRK has bagged three gold and one bronze medals at the London Olympiad until now, the first gold medal by An Kum Ae, a female judoist, and the second by weightlifter Om Yun Chol, who set a new world record.

The good results are delighting the local people while arousing public interest in sports.
