The snatch session was intense which saw three lifters, including Rim, succeed at 115kg. But in clean-and-jerk session, Rim easily took the lead with her first attempt of 142kg. She then extended her winning margin by jerking 146kg on her final attempt, giving her a total of 261kg.

"The only thing I want to do right now is to run to our dear General with my gold medal in my hand," Rim said.

Rim's gold medal marks her country's third win in weightlifting, previously in the men's 56kg and 62kg categories.

Speaking on the secret leading to her victory, she said,

"Our training is designed to maximize our talents and combine them with precise movement.

Even when the training was really tough, as an athlete I have the duty to give joy to the supreme leader Kim Jong Un. This was my motivation and helps me to exert extra power. That's how I succeed."
