The work serves as important guidelines for all the Korean people in the efforts to preserve and creditably carry forward the idea and exploits of President Kim Il Sung for national reunification.

In the work Kim Jong Il defined as the Three Charters for National Reunification the Three Principles of National Reunification, the Ten-point Programme of the Great Unity of the Whole Nation and the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo, which were advanced by Kim Il Sung, and clarified the stand for achieving national reunification on the basis of the charters.

The idea and theory, contained in the work, touched the heartstrings of all Koreans for its truthfulness and scientific accuracy, displaying great validity in the north-south relations and development of the reunification movement.

The work led to the adoption of the historic June 15 North-South Joint Declaration, the keynote of which is to achieve reunification by the Korean nation itself.

But the north-south relations, which were getting momentum in their development, have gone from bad to worse and the nation's reunification movement is now faced with grave challenges due to the separatist forces at home and abroad.

Opposed to the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 Declaration, the Lee Myung Bak regime of south Korea disagrees with national cooperation while frantically seeking anti-DPRK confrontation in league with outside forces. This year alone, the group of traitors dared desecrate the dignity of the DPRK supreme leadership one after another.

No matter how desperately it may try, the group can never dampen the desire and will of the entire Korean nation to achieve independent reunification, peace and prosperity by its united efforts in line with the north-south joint declarations.
