Pyongyang, August 9 (KCNA) -- Pro-reunification social bodies of south Korea held a press conference in Seoul on August 6 over the release of a joint appeal of the South, North and Overseas Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration. They are the South Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration and the "committee to promote the successful holding of the pan-national meeting to check the conclusion of the south Korea-Japan military agreement, implement the south-north joint declaration and achieve peaceful reunification on the occasion of the 67th anniversary of Korea's liberation". Explaining how they came up with an idea of issuing such an appeal, the speakers noted that they were prompted by the intention to resolve the deadlock in dialogue, exchanges and cooperation between the south and the north of Korea, remove the danger of war, etc. South Koreans have been subject to the destiny of slaves since the U.S. forces occupied south Korea right after Korea's liberation, they said, adding that such a long presence of foreign troops on an alien soil is unprecedented in the world history. Stressing that the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration call for independently reunifying the country by pooling efforts of all Koreans in the south and the north of Korea and overseas, they said that a regime seeking peace should be established through the forthcoming "presidential election". They lashed out at the sycophantic and traitorous forces for escalating the fascist suppression of the peace movement forces, terming them "the forces following the north" in order to stay in power. Calling for turning out in the holy struggle to drive the U.S. troops out of south Korea and to eliminate the Lee Myung Bak's clan of traitors, they declared that the organizations would successfully hold the "pan-national meeting" on August 12 to this end. |
