Cancellation of Plan for Joint Military Exercises Demanded in S. Korea

Pyongyang, August 18 (KCNA) -- The Solidarity for Progress, the Solidarity for Democracy, People's Life, Peaceful Reunification and Sovereignty and the Federation of University Students in the 21st Century and other civic, public, youth and students organizations of south Korea held a rally in Seoul on August 10 at which they declared they would struggle for peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Speakers accused the "government" authorities of mulling staging Ulji Freedom Guardian joint military exercises with the U.S. from August 20.

It is deplorable, they noted, adding what is required by this land is not a humiliating alliance with the U.S. but to achieve democracy, repair the inter-Korean relations and realize the peaceful reunification of the country.

They called for canceling the plan for war drills for aggression.

They cannot hand over the disgraceful history to posterity, they said, declaring they would take the lead in the struggle for peace against war.
