Army and People Launch Campaign to Recover from Damage in Komdok Area of DPRK

Tanchon, September 7 (KCNA) -- Intensive drive is being waged in the mine areas of Komdok, Ryongyang and Taehung of the DPRK to recover from damage. Units of the Korean People's Army rushed to the afflicted areas on the order of Supreme Commander Marshal Kim Jong Un. Primary efforts are being paid to relinking the severed railways and roads and bringing the life of the stricken inhabitants to normal. According to initial data, this area suffered from huge damage. More than 2,000 houses were leveled and 170 odd public buildings destroyed or drifted away, claiming casualties. Two pits were totally inundated at the Ryongyang Mine and production stopped. A branch factory disappeared at the Taehung Youth Hero Mine and only skeletons of several light burning kilns are left. Pits were inundated or collapsed at the Komdok Mining Complex. At least 1 800 pieces of equipment including excavators and large blowers and pipes were washed away, buried or destroyed at these mines. Communication networks were cut off. Power lines were also cut off or washed away, impeding the supply of power for industrial use, drinking water and lighting. More than 1.32 million cubic meters of roads disappeared or were destroyed in more than 870 sections and railway beds, iron bridges and rails were inundated or buried and many bridges drifted away. It has become impossible to expect harvest in at least 700 hectares of farmland in Tanchon City. Service personnel and people have turned out in the drive to recover from damage. Officials of ministries and national institutions and other units and working people across the country are rendering sincere help. |
