The statement recalled that after the U.S. imperialists' military occupation of south Korea in September 1945 they pursued a neo-colonial rule harsher than that of the Japanese imperialists.

The U.S. military presence in south Korea is the root cause of the tension on the Korean Peninsula and the unstable situation in Northeast Asia, the statement said, and went on:

The war exercises for aggression staged by the U.S. troops together with the south Korean puppet army have turned the Korean Peninsula into the world's biggest hotspot where a war may break out any moment.

If the U.S. imperialists and the south Korean puppet regime persist in the hostile policy towards the DPRK and keep the U.S. troops in south Korea, the DPRK will be left with no option but to further bolster up its nuclear deterrence to protect its dignity and sovereignty.
