Under the title of "Tradition of Great National Unity in Korea", the article said the great national unity in Korea has deep roots.

President Kim Il Sung established the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland, an organization of the united anti-Japanese national front, on May 5, 1936 as part of the efforts to liberate Korea from Japan's military rule, said the article, adding:

The President organized the historic Joint Conference of Representatives of Political Parties and Public Organizations in North and South Korea in 1948 to arouse the patriotic forces of different political and social strata to the drive for national reunification.

The President set forth the Three Principles of National Reunification in the 1970s and published the 10-point Programme for Great National Unity in the 1990s.

His idea of national unity was successfully carried forward by leader Kim Jong Il.

In his work "Let Us Reunify the Country Independently and Peacefully through the Great Unity of the Entire Nation" in April 1998, Kim Jong Il said the President's idea of national unity, the 10-point programme and the valuable experience and exploits he performed in achieving the unity have served as valuable assets in achieving the great national unity and reunification.

A north-south summit was provided in June 2000 by a bold decision of Kim Jong Il for the first time in the nation's history of division.

The summit culminated in the adoption of the June 15 joint declaration that solemnly declared that the Koreans will solve the issue of reunification by their concerted efforts.

Another north-south summit in October 2007 made public the October 4 declaration, a programme for implementing the June 15 joint declaration.

Korea will surely be reunified under the banner of the great national unity.
