On International Day of Old Persons various events are under way in Pyongyang and other areas of the DPRK to congratulate the revolutionary forerunners who performed feats for the freedom and liberation of the country and the socialist construction, and to spend the day together with elder persons.

It is the fixed policy of the Workers' Party of Korea and the government of the DPRK to respect the revolutionary forerunners and the elder persons and it has become a noble moral obligation of the new generation.

In July this year, Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Un invited war veterans to the celebrations of the War Victory day on the occasion of the 59th anniversary of the Korean people's victory in the Fatherland Liberation War.

Kim Jong Un had a photo taken with the war veterans, calling them valuable treasures who worth their weight in gold and watched an art performance with them. He also provided a grand banquet for them and sent gifts to them. He even made sure that birthday spreads were sent to 30 war veterans who marked their birthdays during the celebration period.

Thanks to his noble intention to let the rising generation successfully carry forward the fighting exploits and spirit of the former generation, the war veterans in the DPRK are enjoying the highest dignity and honor.

The Central Committee of the WPK in a congratulatory message highly estimated the heroic feats performed by the war veterans and wartime merited persons who shed blood for the country and the future generation and called them valuable assets and benefactors of the country, adding that today's country is guaranteed by them.

Social traits of valuing the feats performed by the preceding generation who devoted their all to the party, the leader, the country and the people and respecting them have been displayed in the various annals of the revolution.

The revolutionary martyrs cemetery and patriotic martyrs cemetery were built for the revolutionary and patriotic martyrs and heroic soldiers, and their native places and schools, factories, farms and KPA units associated with them are called after their names and their exploits are given wide publicity.

Cemeteries were built in Pyongyang, Hyesan, Wonsan, Kanggye, Chongjin and other areas and remains of martyrs and merited persons who faithfully upheld the party and the leader and glorified their life in the drive for the prosperity of the country and the country's reunification have been buried there.

Such beautiful stories of respecting and treating warmly the anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters, war veterans, merited persons and other revolutionary forerunners and the aged, and taking care of old persons without supporters are being produced in a great number.

A girl university graduate has become an adopted daughter of a honored disabled war veteran couple without child and young people take warm care of war veterans, honored disabled soldiers and families of soldiers who were killed in action and those killed by enemies. This has become common occurrences across the country.

The country has provided the war veterans and merited persons and other elder persons with good conditions for work and living so that they can hand over high spiritual and moral heritage to the younger generation and do good things for society and collective.

There organized on April 30, 2003 the Association for Supporting the Elderly of Korea, an organization for making sure that the elder persons lead an independent and creative life in good health.

The Association has developed into the Federation for the Care of the Elderly of Korea, making it possible to develop the work for the care of the elderly as required by the times.

The elderly revolutionaries, war veterans and persons of merits will lead a worthwhile life, bringing into full bloom the flower of the revolution in the future, too, amid deep care and respect of the state and society.
