Recovery Operations Make Brisk Headway in Disaster-hit Komdok Area

Pyongyang, October 2 (KCNA) -- A dynamic drive is going on to recover Komdok area from flood damage. The headquarters for recovery operations has channeled main efforts into bringing the living of the inhabitants in the afflicted areas to normal and putting the production on a normal footing at the mines in Komdok area. Measures have been taken in advance to ensure a timely supply of cement, gravel and sand and other materials needed for the construction of dwelling houses. Projects have also been pushed forward to repair production buildings and overhaul equipment, etc. Housing construction is making brisk headway at various mines. Soldiers of the Korean People's Army are pushing ahead with the construction of dwelling houses at a rapid tempo under the uplifted slogan "Let's Help People!" Builders from various units and people in the disaster-stricken areas are bringing about collective innovations in the projects by pooling efforts and wisdom with service personnel. The construction of houses for more than 1 700 families has entered the stage of building walls in a matter of less than a fortnight. More successes are being reported from the housing projects. The designing for the construction of public buildings including nurseries, kindergartens, schools and hospitals was wound up and necessary preparations are making rapid progress. The projects to improve Pukchon River including dredging, dyke building and reinforcing and repair roads are also going full steam ahead. Officials and workers in the railway sector succeeded in rehabilitating the railways from Tanchon to Paekgumsan in a matter of ten odd days. A high-pitched drive is now under way at various mines to put the production on a normal footing. The Komdok Mining Complex has almost completed a huge amount of work to overhaul equipment even under hard conditions. Production restarted at Ore Dressing Plant No. 3, the Youth Mine, the Namphung Mine, the Roun Mine and other units. The remaining units will be able to restart production before long. The Ryongyang Mine is reporting a signal success in the production of minerals and light burned magnesia. The Taehung Youth Hero Mine started operating the process for the production of briquettes. The Pukdu Branch Mine carried out a blasting operation to remove 10 000 cubic meters of earth on Sept. 24, making a breakthrough in mineral production. |
