Kim Kwan Jin, minister of Defense, while inspecting the 2nd Fleet Command of the navy in Phyongthaek, Kyonggi Province, blustered that the north may perpetrate a provocation in an area utterly unimaginable by way of trumpeting in the east and attacking in the west, kicking up war hysteria.

Jong Sung Jo, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the south Korean puppet army, touring units on the front, cried out for "strongly reacting against any provocation on the spot," seizing it as an opportunity of actions.
