Members of civic organizations and people of various strata were involved in the protest staged around the Futenma U.S. air force base.

The protesters blocked the entrances to the military base with their vehicles in strong protest against the implementation of the plan to deploy Ospreys.

It was reported that there was a clash between protestors and U.S. servicemen and that Japanese civilians stood in confrontation with GIs with wire fences in between.
