He was born in a tenant's family with sorrow over being a member of the stateless nation. Living in the south after the country's liberation, he ardently longed to see the north where people were leading a happy life under the care of President Kim Il Sung.

After coming to the DPRK during the Fatherland Liberation War, he bravely fought with arms in his hand for the party and the leader, the country and its people. He devoted himself to the socialist construction after graduating from a university in the post war period.

He was arrested by the enemies while struggling for national reunification. He did not yield to all sorts of appeasement and brutal torture aimed to force him to make an ideological conversion during several decades-long prison life.

Kim Yong Su who received the birthday spread, his family members and relatives renewed their will to dedicate their all to the struggle for the country's prosperity and national reunification, cherishing the love and trust shown by the Marshal.
