The WPK was founded on October 10, 1945 by President Kim Il Sung.

Since its birth the WPK has wisely led the Korean revolution and construction, performing tremendous feats.

Under the guidance of the WPK, the people's government was successfully established in the country and its function and role have been steadily enhanced in keeping with the advance of the times to provide the popular masses with an independent and creative life.

After the liberation of Korea in August 1945, all democratic reforms including agrarian reform and nationalization of major industries were carried out smoothly.

In the April theses issued in 1955, the WPK set forth a policy of stepping up the socialist revolution on a full scale. As a result, the agricultural cooperativization was completed in a short period and the socialist transformation of private businessmen realized to provide an advanced socialist system in the country.

It also put forth a line of building an independent national economy and wisely led the work for its realization, thus turning the DPRK into a powerful socialist industrial state.

Meanwhile, the WPK has steadily built up the material and technological basis for the national defense industry after adopting a policy of simultaneously carrying on the economic and defense construction.

Even under the grim situation in which socialism was undergoing temporary setback and the imperialist allied forces were intensifying the moves to stifle the DPRK, the WPK reliably defended the country and socialism by dint of the Songun (military-first) policy and ushered in a new era of building a prosperous and powerful nation.

And it provided the principles and landmark for Korea's reunification and encouraged all Koreans in the north and the south and abroad to the struggle of national reunification.

The WPK has strengthened the unity and solidarity with the progressive parties throughout the world in the idea of independence, peace and friendship, thus promoting the cause of independence against imperialism.

Under the seasoned guidance of the dear respected Kim Jong Un, the WPK is now leading the drive for building a socialist thriving country with invincible power.
